The Taphouse’s current exterior artwork is an adaptation of an illustration titled “Memento Mori (the Skeleton Lovers)” by San Francisco-born, Dublin- based artist Clara Dudley.
The piece is inspired by the “Lovers of Valdaro, a pair of embracing skeletons found near Mantua, Italy, in 2007; they are estimated to be over 6,000 years old. The artist applied this imagery to develop a contemporary concept of the Lovers of Valdaro in a bed of both natural and industrial objects ranging in symbolic and cultural association.
The original piece was developed for the 2017 Halloween / Samhain season and adapted for Taphouse in October 2018. Prints are available online at her Etsy shop here and her full portfolio can be found at her website: https://www.claradudley.com
